Covid outbreak at Queens Park Rangers forces EFL to postpone TODAY’S Championship clash with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane

  • The surge in Covid-19 cases is beginning to impact English football 
  • QPR have suffered an outbreak among players and staff with ‘several positives’ 
  • Tottenham have also been hit by a number of Covid cases in London  
  • QPR’s Loftus Road clash against Sheffield United has now been delayed  











Sheffield United were expecting QPR at Bramall Lane on Monday night but the fixture has been cancelled after a coronavirus outbreak at the west London club. 

QPR have become the latest club infected by Covid this month, with Tottenham and Leicester suffering, while Crystal Palace have scrapped their Christmas party as cases rise in England.  

Monday night’s match was scheduled to for live coverage on Sky Sports, but will now be rescheduled to a date later this season.

QPR revealed in a statement: ‘QPR have informed the EFL that, following several positive COVID-19 tests among our players and staff, we have insufficient numbers to fulfil the fixture.

‘The circumstances surrounding the postponement will now be the subject of an investigation in accordance with EFL regulations. A rearranged date for the fixture will be announced in due course.

‘We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will update supporters with further information as soon as it is available.’

The EFL added: ‘In accordance with EFL Regulations, the League will now review the circumstances surrounding the postponement with a rearranged date for the fixture to be confirmed in due course.’ 

Fifth-placed QPR were aiming to galvanise their spot in the play-off spots, while victory could have hoisted Sheffield United from 13th to eighth. 

The Londoners still have a game just six days away against Swansea, as they move to quickly contain the virus’ spread through the team. 

The Blades will face Championship leaders Fulham next in eight days.
