Louis van Gaal has fired back at Dutch reporters after Holland’s style of play was questioned following their 2-0 win over Qatar.
Cody Gakpo and Frenkie de Jong netted to send Van Gaal’s side through to the World Cup last-16 as Group A winners.
During his post-match press conference, Van Gaal took issue with criticism of his team’s performances so far in Qatar.

Louis van Gaal wasn’t happy though with questions about his team’s performances in Qatar
He told one journalist: ‘I’m not going to expand on it because I think you have a different opinion of football.
‘Why don’t you write you think it is terribly boring and you are going home tomorrow because you couldn’t care less?’
When another reporter put it to Van Gaal that fans were ‘grinding their teeth’ on social media about the displays, the manager added: ‘That’s disappointing but I don’t agree with you.
One reporter said fans were ‘grinding their teeth’ at the Holland team’s style of play so far
‘That’s your opinion but I don’t think your opinion is the correct opinion. I think everyone would be rather proud we are progressing to the next round.
‘I think things are not as bad as you say they are.’
It marks a contrast to Holland’s pre-match press conference ahead of their game with Senegal, when a young reporter told the manager he doesn’t have a question but just wanted to say that he is a big fan.
Van Gaal thanked the media member, telling him: ‘I don’t hear this a lot, this is very sweet. I want to give you a hug. Later on you and I will be hugging.’
Van Gaal embraced a journalist who said he was a fan of the manager at a press conference
True to his word, after the press conference had finished the 71-year-old sought out the young reporter, and embraced him in front of his colleagues.
Holland took seven points out of a possible nine from Group A, with their victory over Qatar following a 2-0 win over Senegal and a 1-1 draw with Ecuador.
They will face whoever finishes as runner-up in England’s group on Saturday at the Khalifa International Stadium.
