Stuttgart Open organisers have launched an investigation into the racism allegations made by Nick Kyrgios during his semi-final match against Andy Murray yesterday.

Kyrgios was defeated in straight sets, and had been handed a penalty after smashing his racquet and exchanging heated words with members of the crowd.

However, it later emerged that he had retaliated after an apparent racial slur.

Taking to Instagram, he questioned when the abuse was ‘going to stop’, and claimed he was called a ‘little black sheep’ and told to ‘shut up and play’.

In response, the event has now insisted that discrimination will not be ‘tolerated’ and confirmed they will look into the incident.

‘We stand for creating an inclusive environment for all,’ a statement read.

They added: ‘Discrimination of any kind is not tolerated.

‘These fundamental values are as important as values like fairness, tolerance and team spirit to us. Thus no discriminating actions by the spectators are accepted.

‘We have expressed our regret towards Nick Kyrgios and his team and assured that any kind of discrimination is unacceptable.

‘The incident is currently under investigation.’

Kyrgios was left disgusted by the ‘messed up’ incident, saying on Instagram: ‘When is this going to stop? Dealing with racist slurs from the crowd?

‘When I retaliate to the crowd I get penalised. This is messed up.’

A tie break decided the opening set between the two players, before Kyrgios was hit with a points and game penalty, having argued with the chair umpire.

He also refused to play during the second set until the supervisor stepped in.
