Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City host Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in an epic Premier League showdown this weekend.

City come into the game off the back of a 6-0 win against Burnley – with Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Cole Palmer all scoring.

Their last league game came against Crystal Palace. Haaland scored the only goal of the game to give City a 1-0 win. Guardiola’s men are eight points behind league leaders Arsenal but have a game in hand.

When is Manchester City vs Liverpool?

City’s clash with Liverpool will take place on Saturday, April 1, with the game kicking off at 12.30pm.

The game between the two sides will take place at the Etihad Stadium, where City have won five out of their last five games.

Manchester City fans may not be confident heading into this weekend’s fixture. The club have only won one of their last five games against the Reds.

Despite their recent poor record against Klopp’s side, City won the last encounter back in December. Haaland, Riyad Mahrez and Nathan Ake all scored in a 3-2 win for Guardiola’s side in the Carabao Cup round of 16.

Guardiola will be hoping that Haaland is fit enough to start from the off against the Reds. The forward is City’s top scorer this season with 42 goals.

City forward Erling Haaland was forced to pull out of the Norway squad ahead of their recent Euro 2024 qualifiers. The 22-year-old suffered a groin problem after scoring a hat-trick against Burnley.

Guardiola will give the forward one last training session to prove his fitness before making a final decision. Should Haaland not play, Julian Alvarez is likely to start from the off on Saturday. 

Phil Foden is set to miss four weeks after recently undergoing surgery after suffering from appendicitis.

For Liverpool, the club will be without midfielder Stefan Bajcetic. Bajcetic will miss the rest of the season due to an adductor injury.

Thiago is also set to miss the game through injury, while Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo are in contention to feature.

Heading into the showdown with Liverpool, Guardiola believes that Liverpool remains an ‘exceptional’ team despite their poor campaign so far.

‘We know each other for many years, the same manager many years. One more,’ Guardiola said at his pre-match press conference. 

‘They remain an exceptional team. My opinion doesn’t chance for a season of ups and downs. Every team during one season can have these up and downs.

‘Nothing changes, there is another rival this season… but in the future they will always be a big rival.’
