New York Yankees star Aaron Judge fears his toe won’t ever return to normal following the injury he suffered crashing through a fence at Dodger Stadium.

The 31-year-old could still require surgery on the torn ligament in his big right toe that has kept him on the sidelines for the past month.

Judge has stepped up his recovery – hitting off a tee and playing catch – but running still appears to be a way off.

The Yankees superstar still hopes to return this season but, on Tuesday, Judge admitted he isn’t sure how long he will be living with the after-effects of the injury.

‘It doesn’t feel great,’ he said. ‘I don’t think it will ever feel normal.

‘I can move around pretty well, but any injury (can bother you for) a year or two or three years. You never know what it’s gonna feel like.’

Judge made reference to the dislocated finger he suffered in 2021 that troubled him for a while, adding ahead of the Yankees game with the Orioles: ‘I’ve got to be able to run… if I can run, then I can play. But me running at 10 per cent isn’t helping anybody.’

Judge suffered the injury against the Dodgers on June 3, crashing through a door as he made an incredible catch in right field.

The 31-year-old began to wince almost immediately and now, a month on, Judge has still to rule out going under the knife.

‘There’s talks of surgery, but I don’t think we’re at that (point),’ Judge added. ‘We’re not doing that this year.’

When pressed on whether it could be an option for the offseason, Judge said, ‘Yeah, but I’m not a doctor… I’m doing anything I can to speed the process up.’
