Anderson has got Kohli out six times in Tests – but who’s his favourite Indian batsman of all time?

TOP SPIN AT THE TEST: Jimmy Anderson has sent Virat Kohli back to the pavilion six times in Tests after claiming his scalp at Trent Bridge – but can you guess his all-time favourite Indian batsman to bowl against?

  • Jimmy Anderson dismissed Virat Kohli for a first-ball duck on Thursday
  • That was the sixth time Anderson has got Kohli’s wicket in Test matches
  • But there is another great Indian batsman who he preferred to bowl against
  • Anderson’s bowling record at Trent Bridge is verging on ridiculous

When Jimmy Anderson removed Virat Kohli for a first-ball duck, it took him to 619 Test wickets – joint-third on the all-time list with Indian leg-spinner Anil Kumble. Only Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Shane Warne (708) lie ahead.

Anderson has now taken Kohli’s wicket on six occasions in Tests – but this was the first since 2014, when he dismissed him four times. But Kohli isn’t quite his favourite Indian batsman.

Anderson has removed Sachin Tendulkar nine times, Cheteshwar Pujara eight, including on Thursday, and Murali Vijay seven.

Meanwhile, Anderson’s love affair with Trent Bridge continues. Figures of two for 15 from 13.4 overs took his Test record here to 66 wickets at 19 in 11 Tests.

Only at Lord’s, where he has played 24 times, does he have more wickets: 105.

This was Kohli’s fourth duck in his last Test innings against England, starting with the second innings at The Oval in 2018, and including games at Chennai and Ahmedabad earlier this year. Of his 13 Test ducks overall, six have come against England.

Since making 73 against England at Chennai in February, Pujara has now gone eight Test innings without passing 21, the worst drought of his 87-Test career.
