Antonio Cassano has claimed Dusan Vlahovic made a ‘sensationally wrong decision’ in snubbing Arsenal to sign for Juventus

The imposing striker, 22, confirmed his move from Fiorentina to Juventus for £58million plus £8m in add-ons this week, having spurned the opportunity to sign for the Premier League outfit.

And former Real Madrid and Italy forward Cassano criticised Vlahovic for that call, as well as branding him a ‘second-tier player’.

He said: ‘Juventus will not change with Allegri, neither next year nor in ten years.

‘In my opinion, (Vlahovic’s decision) is sensationally wrong. For the type of player I think he is, he needed to make an intermediate step to a team like Arsenal, Tottenham, or Sevilla, who signed (Anthony) Martial.

‘For me, you know, he has always been a second-tier player.’

The Serb is one of the highest-rated frontmen in Europe after scoring 49 goals in 108 games in all competitions for La Viola, including 20 in 24 this season.

Mikel Arteta’s side bid £50m plus midfielder Lucas Torreira – currently on loan at the Artemio Franchi – but will now have to find another forward, with Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak and Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin of interest.

But upon joining the Old Lady on Friday, his 22nd birthday, Vlahovic insisted it was the right move for him.

He said: ‘Juventus represents pride, tradition, family. Juventus are always there until the last minute, they never give up. The team always comes first, I am at the disposal of the coach and my teammates, who I will try to help in the best way possible.

‘We always want more, and we want to improve in the future. It is really wonderful, a special day. This is one of the happiest birthdays I’ve experienced so far. I want to make Juventus proud. We will always fight for all goals, as they say, fino alle fine!’

Vlahovic will wear the No 7 shirt previously belonging to Cristiano Ronaldo, and is set to make his debut for the Italian giants in their home tie against Verona on Sunday.
