Manchester United‘s new captain Bruno Fernandes inspired his side to a 2-0 win against Arsenal during Saturday night’s pre-season friendly at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The Portuguese midfielder lead by example during the match and provided the spark the Red Devils needed hitting a low effort from outside the penalty area that bobbled over Aaron Ramsdale and into the roof of the net.
Erik ten Hag’s side would hit back just seven minutes later, with Jadon Sancho capitalising on a long pass, before hitting a superbly taken shot from a tight angle into the back of the net.
Both managers fielded strong starting elevens for the match, with Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber both making their first starts for the Gunners.
Kai Havertz also featured, but couldn’t add to his goal talley which was opened in the week during Arsenal’s 5-0 win against the MLS All Stars.
Andre Onana, who flew out to the US train with his new team following his £47million transfer from Inter Milan, was not included in Ten Hag’s squad, with Tom Heaton donning the gloves after the United boss blocked his transfer to Luton.
