Aussie fighter Shannon Ross cops brutal 17-second knockout from Jesus Aguilar in sickening scenes at UFC 290: ‘I thought he was dead’

Jesus Aguilar claimed the second-fastest finish in UFC flyweight history with a brutal overhand right that knocked Gold Coast flyweight Shannon Ross out cold at UFC 290.
Ross was finished in just 17 seconds during Sunday’s prelim fight at T-Mobile Arena with a devastating blow that saw him sprawled on the canvas for several minutes.
Aguilar, who is known as a submission specialist and not a striker, stunned the Aussie when he faked a jab and followed up with an overhand right that landed right on the button.
Ross was knocked out from the moment the punch landed and had some viewers seriously worried about his well-being.
Thankfully the Aussie mechanic-turned-MMA-fighter recovered eventually, and watched a replay of the punch as he was exiting the Octagon.

‘I’m here live and I thought Ross was dead. He didn’t wake up for 2 minutes,’ wrote a fan who is at the event.
‘Brutal KO. Jesus is for real,’ said another.
‘Right hand came all the way from Grandma’s house,’ said a third.
It was the second straight UFC loss for the Aussie father of four, and third overall after his Contender Series shot ended in a knockout loss.
Ross was chosen for Dana White’s Contender Series in Las Vegas last year, but contracted appendicitis during fight week.
He then won a dream contract with the UFC, despite getting knocked out and rushed into emergency surgery with a burst appendix.

Aguilar will relish the impressive victory after suffering a loss in his Octagon debut against Tatsuro Taira.
Two of Australia’s biggest MMA stars, Alex Volkanovski and Rob Whittaker are set to make history in Las Vegas later in today’s show at UFC 290.
Volkanovski, 34, will be defending his 145lbs title for the fifth time, after suffering a close defeat to lightweight champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 284 in February.
Whittaker is set to meet undefeated contender Dricus Du Plessis, and by winning is aiming to get his middleweight belt back with a shot at rival Israel Adesanya.
