The BBC are set to show Chelsea‘s top-of-the-table clash with Manchester United in the WSL later today, but with no presentation amid the fallout from Gary Lineker‘s suspension.

The Match of the Day host has been forced to ‘step back’ from presenting the Saturday night show after breaching the BBC’s ‘social media guidelines’ due to a tweet which compared the language used to promote a new Government asylum policy with 1930s Germany.

Ian Wright and Alan Shearer pulled out of their punditry duties while the programme’s in solidarity with their colleague while Alex Scott refused to host Football Focus on Saturday morning.

As a result, it was believed that the BBC’s coverage of this afternoon’s Women’s Super League game between Chelsea and Man United would be under serious threat.

The highly-anticipated fixture is due to be broadcast live on BBC Two. But, talks over the coverage are still ongoing amid given several presenters, pundits and commentators have walked out.

Scott is one of the main presenters for women’s football on the BBC but has made her stance clear while Kelly Somers, another frequent host of Women’s Super League matches, also tweeted that she would not be appearing on the BBC this weekend.

Eilidh Barbour, another BBC presenter, has liked tweets from colleagues who have pulled out from working on the broadcaster’s sports programmes.

The game between Chelsea and United is arguably the biggest of the WSL season so far, with the Red Devils one point ahead of the Blues at the top of the table.
