Brentford 3-1 Liverpool PLAYER RATINGS: Virgil van Dijk underwhelms, while Bryan Mbeumo dominated

Brentford beat Liverpool 3-1 during their Premier League fixture at the Gtech Community Stadium on Monday evening – marking their first victory over the Reds since 1938.

It was Ibrahima Konate‘s own goal and strikes from Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo that saw the Bees emerge victorious, despite Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Sportsmail has analysed how each player performed during the Premier League encounter.

Brentford (3-5-2)

Raya 7

Raya was solid for Brentford and made a string of good saves to keep them in the game when Liverpool were at their most threatening.

Zanka 6

Zanka set the tone of the game when he picked up a second-minute booking for a foul on Nunez. However, he was reliable for the rest of the clash.

Pinnock 7

Pinnock did well to keep Nunez at bay during the Premier League fixture. However, he did make some wayward clearances.

Mee 8

Mee was one of Brentford’s standout performers. He was involved in the majority of their attacks and even saved Nunez’s first-half strike from finding the back of the net.

Roerslev 7

Not one of Roerslev’s best performances. He played with a little too much caution but still provided for his team.

Jensen 7.5 (Dasilva 74, 6)

Good performance from Jensen – who registered an assist for Wissa for Brentford’s second goal.

Norgaard 7.5

Norgaard was sure-footed at the back for Brentford. He also launched some of their most dangerous counter-attacks.

Janelt 6.5 (Ghoddos 87)

Janelt didn’t provide Brenford with his best performance but he controlled the ‘controllables’ and ran hard for his team-mates.

Henry 7 (Sorensen 90)

Henry was strong in attack and dominated his channel. However, he did make a few mistakes defensively.

Mbeumo 8.5 (Canos 88)

Mbeumo won his 50/50 battles and was strong on the ball throughout. He also scored Brentford’s third and final goal of the game.

Wissa 8 (Lewis Potter 74, 6)

Another good performance from Wissa. He scored an exceptional goal that was disallowed but bounced back to find the net once again.

Subs not used: Strakosha, Damsgaard, Crama, Trevitt

Liverpool (4-3-3)

Alisson 6.5

Alisson will be disappointed with the score line and the lack of communication between his defenders but he made some crucial saves to keep Liverpool in it.

Alexander-Arnold 6

Sensational cross for Liverpool’s only goal of the game but failed to convert late in the second half after the ball was placed perfectly on his right foot.

Konate 4

Konate will be disappointed with his performance. He scored an own goal to give Brentford the lead and was muscled off the ball for their third goal.

Van Dijk 4.5 (Matip 46)

It was a night to forget for Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk. He was hooked off at half-time after a disappointing first 45 minutes.

Tsimikas 4.5 (Robertson 46)

Tsimikas will have wanted to make more of an impact after replacing Robertson. He was guilty of firing off some wayward crosses and missed a golden opportunity to score.

Elliott 5 (Keita 46)

Elliott was booked and subbed during the game. It came as no surprise considering his rash challenges and inability to create anything going forwards.

Fabinho 6

Fabinho returned to the squad after missing the Leicester game due to the birth of his first child. Liverpool benefited from his presence but the midfield as a whole experienced a dip in form.

Thiago 6

Thiago had a stellar game against Leicester but failed to hit the same heights against Brentford. Nevertheless, he was once of Liverpool’s better players on the night.

Salah 6

Salah did well to threaten down the flanks on Monday evening but struggled to execute his final passes.

Nunez 6.5

Nunez missed a big chance for Liverpool in the first half but did score a wonderful goal in the second. However, it was disallowed as he was offside.

Oxlade-Chamberlain 6.5 (Jones 83)

Oxlade-Chamberlain made his 100th appearance for Liverpool on Monday evening and scored their only goal of the game.
