The British Airways website has crashed this afternoon, leaving frustrated travellers unable to check in for their flights. 

According to Down Detector, the problems started at around 14:00 BST and are affecting users across the UK. 

Of those who reported issues, 63 per cent said they were struggling with the website, while 35 per cent said the problem was with the app. 

MailOnline attempted to access the website, and received an error message that read: ‘There is currently no access to your account while we upgrade our system. 

‘Please visit the to find out how this may affect you. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience.’

The outage has left many travellers unable to check in for their flights. 

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: ‘British Airways is your website down? Not been able to look at flight etc, flying home from USA tomorrow.’

Another added: ‘Can you tell me when your website will be up and running again? Trying to check in for my flight. Unbelievable that it’s down. Can you give me and everyone else an update please.’

And one vented: ‘How can @British_Airways be so inept? Huge airline. Website and app consistently down for check-in. Get your s*** together!’
