Burnley are under investigation after fielding a weakened side in their 0-0 draw with Reading last weekend, according to reports.

The Clarets fielded a much-changed starting line-up for their clash with the Royals, having just secured promotion to the Premier League the match prior.

Reading, on the other hand, are facing an entirely different scenario and picked up a precious point against the best team in the league.

However, according to the Sun, this caused some frustration with their relegation rivals Huddersfield, who then raised concerns when they saw six changes to Burnley’s typical line-up.

The reports claim that the EFL have written to the Clarets over the matter. If found guilty, they could face a potential points deduction and a fine.

Burnley, reportedly, remain adamant that changes to the line-up were only made to work around their busy scheduling.

The likes of Ashley Barnes and winger Anass Zaroury, who have been vital in Burnley’s success this year, were dropped to the bench for the fixture.

It could end up proving to be a crucial point if Reading do manage to stay up, however they’re currently in the relegation zone and one point behind the Terriers.

Burnley’s place in the Premier League may be secured already, but that didn’t stop them from slipping up to QPR in Saturday’s fixture.

The Clarets hadn’t been beaten in all season until Rangers, who are also part of the Championship relegation battle, turned up and secured a shock 2-1 win.

Sam Field and Chris Martin were on target for the visitors as Manuel Benson struck for Vincent Kompany’s side in the defeat.

It was just their third loss of the season but complacency is understandable given their 10-point lead at the top of the table, with three games remaining.
