According to ESPN former Detroit Pistons no.1 overall pick Cade Cunningham plans to have season-ending surgery on his left shin.
Cunningham has missed ample time this season dealing with an injury that was believed to be a stress fracture to his left shin.
He is expected to make a full recovery in time for next seasons training camp.

Cunningham has been sidelined since November 9th and had been attempting to treat the injury with rest and rehab to see if it would improve, however that clearly did not happen.
After consulting with several different doctors, the Pistons and Cunningham’s advisors decided it was best to undergo surgery and begin preparation to be healthy for the 2023-2024 season.
Through the 12 games he played in this year the 21-year-old guard averaged 19.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and six assists.

Last year as a rookie Cunningham averaged 17.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.6 assists, but saw a tremendous uptick in his numbers during the second half of the season when his numbers increased to 21.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 6.5 assist.
Detroit has missed Cunningham’s impact on the court tremendously this season as they currently hold the worst record in the NBA at 7-22.
The fact that the star point guard will miss the year however will firmly entrench rookie point guard Jaden Ivey as the team’s lead ball handler going forward.
