‘Call me Wrighty, Lozza’: Ian Wright takes a dig at Des Lynam after he criticised Laura Woods

Ian Wright aimed a dig at Des Lynam during ITV‘s coverage of the World Cup, after the legendary broadcaster offered some bizarre criticism of Laura Woods.

Lynam suggested that Woods, who has presented much of ITV’s World Cup coverage, is ‘too familiar’ with Wright on air and added that her calling him ‘Wrighty’ was made him ‘wince’.

Writing in the Telegraph, the 80-year-old said of Woods: ‘She has done quite a lot of presentation work on both radio and television and comes over as both confident and capable.

‘She called Ian Wright ‘Wrighty’ which sounds comfortable coming from the likes of Lineker but it made me slightly wince.

Woods was unsurprisingly baffled by Lynam’s comments, tweeting: ‘Jeez. Of all the things covered this is what made Des wince?’

The former Arsenal striker slammed the article for ‘looking for something negative to write’, and hit back at Lynam on air.

After Woods addressed him by his first name, Wright replied: ‘You know what Lozza, it doesn’t matter, you don’t have to call me Ian.’

Wright hit back while live on air, calling Woods ‘Lozza’ and asking her to call him  ‘Wrighty’

‘Look, how long we’ve known each other? Call me Wrighty like you normally do.’

The always-popular pundit was showered with praise over the joke, with numerous fans labelling him a ‘national treasure’.

‘Ian Wright is one of the best humans out there, you just can’t dislike him,’ another added.
