Riley McGree sent Middlesbrough up into the play-off places on Thursday night as they came from behind to beat 10-man Blackburn.

The hosts had gone in front inside six minutes through Ryan Hedges, but were pegged back in the first minute of the second half when Finland forward Marcus Forss fired in from Matt Crooks’ pass.

And four minutes later the match turned when John Buckley was shown a straight red card for throwing the ball at McGree.

The Middlesbrough man took full advantage in the 56th minute when Forss turned provider, heading the ball back across goal to McGree, who won it for Michael Carrick’s side and sent them up to sixth.

Elsewhere, Millwall dropped out of the play-off places after they were frustrated by a goalless draw at home to Bristol City.

Coventry and Cardiff also drew 0-0, which saw the Bluebirds move above Rotherham into 19th despite extending their winless league run to six matches with a fourth consecutive draw.
