Every Chicago Bears player was given a fitness program to follow in the summer, but rookie offensive tackle Darnell Wright returned to training camp in better shape than most.

That’s because, according to Wright himself, he actually did the wrong program – instead preparing for the conditioning test the team’s wide receivers have to face.

‘I was looking at the wide receivers’ running portion of the workout, so I was doing theirs,’ Wright said, per ProFootballTalk.

‘So then I came back and obviously we have different [programs], so,’ Wright said.

The mistake turned out to be a positive one, as Bears GM Ryan Poles praised this year’s 10th overall pick after he ‘crushed’ his conditioning test.

Wright also said he shed 16 points of fat while training for the more difficult wide receivers’ test.

‘More distance and lower time,’ he said of the difference between the offensive line and wide receivers’ tests.

‘It definitely feels better, it’s a little bit of an adjustment as far as training power, still, but I think I’m more powerful because I didn’t lose any muscle mass. You definitely feel a step quicker.’

Wright was selected by the Bears after starring at the University of Tennessee for three seasons.

He’ll look to make his NFL debut when Chicago hosts the Packers in Week 1.
