England international Conor Coady has signed for Everton from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan.

The 29-year-old defender, who will wear the number 30 shirt for the Blues, is the club’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window after the arrivals of fellow centre-back James Tarkowski, former Wolves teammate Ruben Vinagre and forward Dwight McNeil.

His arrival is timely with Ben Godfrey ruled out for three months after fracturing a fibula against Chelsea and Yerry Mina facing a scan on an ankle injury.

Born in Merseyside, Coady captained Wolves for the past four seasons and was a hugely influential figure both on and off the pitch for the West Midlands club.

Brought to Molineux in 2015 by Everton Director of Football Kevin Thelwell, when he was Wolves’ Sporting Director, Coady has 10 England caps and is in contention for a World Cup spot in Qatar this winter.

Coady began his career at Liverpool, getting a taste of first-team football on loan at Sheffield United in 2013/14 before a permanent move to Huddersfield Town the following campaign.

After catching the eye in Yorkshire, the defender signed for Wolves in July 2015, helping the club win the Championship before qualifying for Europe in the Premier League and reaching the last eight of the Europa League in 2019/20.

As well as his leadership qualities, Coady also played 196 times out of a possible 198 league games over the previous five seasons.

Manager Frank Lampard added: ‘We are delighted to bring a player of Conor’s quality and vast experience to Everton and he fits into how we want to play as a team.

‘As well as being one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders and an England international, his leadership skills will be of huge benefit to us, too.’
