Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has ‘very little left in his legs’ according to anonymous NFL scouts.
Elliott, who has been displaced by Tony Pollard as the Boys starting running back, has struggled to recapture the form of earlier seasons in his career.
The former Ohio State star is set for a big payday of $10.9million base salary in 2023 and will be a $16.7m cap hit for the Cowboys, per Spotrac.
The Athletic’s Bob Sturm cited numerous analysts and scouts with the ‘consensus’ being Elliott is past his best.
‘He has very little left in his legs and the word is out,’ Stern said of the general thought on Elliott.
The Dallas Cowboys’ No. 21 could be looking for a new team as early as the end of next season
Elliott hasn’t exactly captured the electrifying form which earned him the huge 2019 contract
‘I believe he has one option for employment above the league minimum and it is right here in Dallas.
‘I could be wrong, but if I am, it is a very low number. Maybe one year for $2 million or $2.5 million.’
Elliott has a contract with the Cowboys through 2026, though Dallas does have an option to exit the contract at the end of the 2023 season, with zero guaranteed money remaining on the initial six-year, $90m deal.
The 27-year-old signed the huge contract back in 2019 and has since rushed for 979, 1002 and 876 respectively in succeeding seasons.
Heading in to the 2023 season, Elliott will be the biggest cap hit of all running backs in the NFL ahead of Tennessee’s Derrick Henry ($16.3m), New Orleans’ Alvin Kamara ($16m) and Cleveland’s Nick Chubb ($14.8).
