The Sea Eagles have sacked two-time premiership winning coach Des Hasler.

Following a board meeting on Thursday, the club and owner Scott Penn decided to usher in Anthony Siebold as his replacement for 2023 and beyond.

Hasler’s manager George Mimis was then informed of the development, with termination papers soon to be drawn up.

Hasler is now tipped to pursue legal action against the club where he also won two titles as a player in 1987 and 1996.

He leaves Manly with the second most coached games in the club’s history.

Following a meeting on Thursday, the club and owner Scott Penn decided to usher in Anthony Siebold as Hasler’s replacement

As recently as Wednesday, Hasler was reportedly prepared to work alongside Siebold for the 2023 season before departing.

But Penn and the club board have opted for a fresh start, in a move which will anger many Sea Eagles fans.

Hasler also guided Manly to the NRL preliminary final last season and a top four finish.

This year, the pride jersey saga derailed the Sea Eagles campaign as they lost their final seven games before finishing 11th.

It also comes as the player agent of Sea Eagles superstars Jake and Tom Trbojevic admitted the ongoing power struggle at the club has ‘taken a toll’ on the brothers.

Paul Sutton, from the SFX Sports Group, said the Trbojevic siblings were ‘disappointed in the club’s behaviour’ and fear their beloved organisation is rapidly ‘imploding.’

According to the Daily Telegraph, a frustrated Jake Trbojevic spoke to Sutton about the festering situation from over in the UK, where he is a member of the Kangaroos squad competing at the World Cup.

Tom Trbojevic – the 2021 Dally M Medal winner – is said to be seething about rumours that certain club insiders hold the view he is overpaid.

‘They feel that the club that they love is imploding in front of their eyes,’ Sutton said.

‘They are really down in the dumps with the place. ‘If it continues, it is wearing and once the place becomes unsavoury, what do you do? If it becomes untenable.

‘Both Jake and Tom are unhappy.’

Penn said earlier this week having Siebold on board was vital to ‘future-proof’ the club’s football success, with a succession plan integral.

Siebold worked under Trent Barrett at Manly before stints with the Newcastle Knights and the English rugby team, where he was Eddie Jones’ defensive coach.

He has also been the head coach of the Rabbitohs and Broncos, ‘winning’ a wooden spoon at Red Hill in 2020 after just three wins all season.
