Tickets for Sunday’s NFC title game between the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers are on course to go down as the most expensive in NFL conference championship history.

The Eagles and 49ers will battle it out for a place in next month’s Super Bowl at Lincoln Financial Field, and fans are forking out record sums to be there.

Ticketmaster’s general sale, which represented the cheapest way for buyers to secure a seat, was wiped out in a matter of minutes after thousands flocked to the website on Tuesday morning.

Any fans still wishing to attend will now need to go through the secondary market, where tickets are averaging at a record price of $2,468, according to industry search engine TicketIQ (via Yahoo).

Ticket IQ president Jesse Lawrence claims it is ‘the most expensive conference championship game we’ve ever tracked’, surpassing the previous record of $1,542 set by last year’s showdown between 49ers vs Rams.

Secondary inventory for the game was still said to be high on Tuesday, with between 4,000 and 5,000 still available, and if that remains the case prices could begin to fall before Sunday’s game.

However, it’s possible inventory could dry up if fans lose patience and take what is available after Ticketmaster’s general sale was wiped out on Tuesday.

For now ticket prices remain high, as Lawrence added: ‘Get-in price dropped a bit, but overall the average is right where it was [Monday].’

The current get-in price, for the cheapest seat in the stadium or standing room only, was at close to $700 before fees on Tuesday night.

It is not only the Eagles vs 49ers game drawing record prices, nevertheless, as the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals’ meeting later on Sunday night is also generating the most expensive average AFC championships tickets ever tracked by TicketIQ.

Chiefs vs Bengals currently has an average ticket price of $1,218, according to the outlet, and the fourth-highest of any title game.

Super Bowl tickets are also on course for an all-time high with an average of $9,527 per seat

Super Bowl sales are also projected to be at an all-time high as things stand. Tickets for next month’s showpiece at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona are averaging at a whopping $9,527, though Lawrence anticipates a drop.

He said: ‘Prices won’t likely remain that high, but if they did it would be the most expensive Super Bowl we’ve tracked.’

The Eagles and 49ers go head to head at 3pm EST on Sunday, before the Chiefs and Bengals lock horns at 6:30pm.
