Elderly woman, 91, is left with horror facial injuries after being assaulted and robbed in her home – as police hunt down the man who broke in through her back door

  • A man entered through an unlocked door and attacked the elderly pensioner
  • She suffered facial injuries in the attack but he managed to grab her bag and flee
  • The 91-year-old was later treated at Tweed Heads Hospital for her injuries
  • NSW Police appealed for CCTV or dashcam footage from anyone in the area 

Police are searching for a man who robbed and assaulted a 91-year-old woman in her own home.

The elderly woman suffered facial injuries in the attack on the far north coast of NSW and was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital.

‘She’s still in hospital and in shock,’ a neighbour who called the police and ambulance for the elderly woman commented on the NSW Police Facebook post about the attack.  

‘She was screaming out my name and I just went into action.’

Police appealed for anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area at Tweed Heads to come forward

NSW Police said the man entered the woman’s unit on William Street, Tweed Heads South, through an unlocked door last Monday between 5pm and 5.15pm. 

He then grabbed the pensioner and struck her on the torso as he covered her mouth and nose.

Police said the woman struggled with the man and pushed him away before managing to grab her handbag and flee the unit. 

They appealed for anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from the surrounding area between 4.45pm and 5.30pm on July 12 to contact Tweed Heads Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
