The England striker was on the receiving end of a heavy tackle just after half time in England’s 6-2 win against Iran on Monday.

After receiving treatment he was able to play on, before he was replaced in the 76th minute by Callum Wilson.

Kane left the Khalifa International Stadium with light strapping on his ankle, leading to England sending him for a scan on Wednesday to check that he had not suffered any significant damage.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford allayed fears over his captain’s fitness.

‘I think he is good, a little bit sore but he is fine and been out with us on the grass,’ the Everton stopper said. ‘He is our captain, he has been good. He is fine, yeah.’

Having Kane fit for the rest of the tournament is a major boost for Gareth Southgate, with the Tottenham striker regarded as England’s talisman having netted 51 goals in 76 appearances for his country.

The 29-year-old is just two goals short of Wayne Rooney’s all-time record for England men’s side, a milestone that he will be looking to move past in Qatar.

Kane failed to get on the scoresheet in England’s opening game, but did register two assists, setting up Raheem Sterling and Bukayo Saka’s second goal.
