Trent Alexander-Arnold wasted no time is showing why Gareth Southgate was right to deploy the Liverpool man in a midfield three against Malta.
The 24-year-old had showed his ability to switch positions for his club side this season, and Southgate took note of his performances and decided to play Alexander-Arnold in a midfield position.
Wearing the number ten shirt, it didn’t take long for the England star to make an impact in the game.
After having a hand in England’s opener that forced an own goal from Ferdinando Apap, Alexander-Arnold got his name onto the score sheet with an empathic finish from the edge the box.
James Maddison slipped away from the Maltese defence and his pass rebounded into the path of Alexander-Arnold and he took his chance with a speculative drive to double England’s lead.

Fans quickly took to social media to praise the goal and the performance of England’s newest number ten.
‘This new Trent’s role might be a cheat code’ wrote supporter on Twitter. While another pointed out the goal was scored with his less-favoured foot, stating: With his Weak foot too Trent is insane’.
Alexander-Arnold was so good in England’s first half performance it had another user saying that Liverpool shouldn’t bother in signing another midfielder.
Claiming: ‘ I hope Klopp is watching. One less midfielder to buy this season. Trent has got this.’
Another fan went all in by simply declaring ‘Trent Alexander Arnold is the best footballer in the world.’
A statement backed up by one user also sending a message to those who have doubted the player in the past, saying: ‘Sick of this Trent discourse you know…broken multiple records, won major trophies and it’s taken people this long to realise how good he is ? Nah your just flip flops and haters.’

Watching on in the Channel 4 studio, Euro 2022 winner Jill Scott also waxed lyrical over Alexander-Arnold’s goal and display in Malta.
I think he really deserved the goal for his play in the first half. Scott said at half time.
‘What a great turn by Maddison, and then when it drops to him it’s such a great finish. You have to question the goalkeepers position, but Trent’s finish you can’t argue with it. The curl, the precision, he’s had such a good first half.’
The goal was also somewhat of a milestone, too, as Opta revealed Alexander-Arnold was the first Liverpool player to score from outside the box for England in a competitive international since Steven Gerrard against Moldova in September 2013 in a World Cup qualifier.
