England drew the second Test against the West Indies, making it all to play for when the final Test begins in Grenada on Thursday.
There were plenty of reasons for Root’s team to be encouraged by their display in the second Test as Ben Stokes provided another Herculean effort with the ball and Saqib Mahmood proved his worth.
However, several players also struggled with the likes of Chris Woakes picking up just two wickets in this series.

ENGLAND
Alex Lees 5
Hung around for 138 balls in England’s first innings and perished in pursuit of quick runs second time around. Jury still out.
Zak Crawley 5
Couldn’t build on his century in the first Test but did fall to an excellent second-innings catch.

Joe Root 8.5
Masterful century, then did all he could in the field. Another to fall in England’s rush to declare.
Dan Lawrence 8
Only impetuosity cost him a maiden century. The match where he truly arrived in Test cricket.
Ben Stokes 9
Special century and another Herculean effort with the ball. Back to his best.

Jonny Bairstow 6
Gave it away in the first innings, selfless in second. Back in this Test team to stay.
Ben Foakes 6
Yes, the Surrey wicketkeeper is very good, but he hasn’t proved he’s the best in the world — yet!
Chris Woakes 5
Sadly, he’s facing the end of the road overseas, with just two wickets in this series. Hasn’t risen to the task as attack leader.
Matt Fisher 6.5
Dream start taking a wicket with his second ball, but not the surface for a bowler who looks like an English-type seamer.
Jack Leach 7.5
Incredible effort from the spinner but not quite enough to win this Test for England.
Saqib Mahmood 8
Very encouraging start for a bowler who offers something different with his skiddy reverse swing.
