Joe Root inched up the all-time list of Test centurions No 25 – one ahead of Greg Chappell, Viv Richards, Mohammad Yousuf, Kane Williamson and David Warner, and level with Inzamam-ul-Haq.

The only player with 26 Test hundreds was in the stands at Kensington Oval: Garfield Sobers.

Since the start of 2021, Root has dealt clinically with his old problem of not converting half-centuries into three figures.
