  • The Argentine has opened up on the psychological affects on him from the saga
  • Benfica were reluctant to sell their star before Chelsea made the mammoth offer

Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez has opened up on his move to the Blues, revealing that the week before was ‘stressful’ and took a lot out of him psychologically, but was worth it.

The World Cup winner arrived at Stamford Bridge on deadline day in January, completing a £107million move to the club.

Chelsea were locked in negotiations with Benfica for weeks before finally agreeing a fee to see the Argentine join the Premier League side.

Speaking to B/R Football, Fernandez opened up on the week prior to his move in an honest interview.

He said: ‘It was a very intense week. The negotiations were very long, there were a lot of obstacles. Benfica didn’t want me to leave and I have to say it was a very stressful week that took a lot out of me psychologically.’

The 22-year-old continued to reveal that the transfer saga ended how he wanted it to, and that the stress was worth it for him to complete his move to the Premier League.

‘But it all turned out the way you would want, and I was able to make that jump to play in the Premier League for a huge club like Chelsea,’ he said.

‘But yeah, it’s true that there were some days and hours where I couldn’t sleep, I was anxious not knowing what was happening but at the end of the day it was all worth it.’

Chelsea will be hoping that Fernandez can push on in the new season and prove his worth after a great start to life at Stamford Bridge.

Mauricio Pochettino is keen to reinforce his midfield and provide Fernandez with a suitable partner in the middle of the park.

However, Chelsea have seen their latest bid of £80million turned down by Brighton for Moises Caicedo.
