A segment on Friday’s episode of ‘NBA Today’ became slightly awkward when ESPN insider Brian Windhorst listed Memphis Grizzlies Danny Green as potential trade target… while the player was sitting directly beside him.

Green has been rehabbing from injury and has taken up a part-time analyst role on the show, but that did not stop one of his fellow panel members picking him while talking about Grizzlies players that could be leaving soon.

‘One of the people that people are talking about is if the Grizzlies want to upgrade, will they call about Danny Green and a draft pick?’ Windhorst said.

‘I’m not shocked,’ Green said, amid laughter from the panel. ‘At this point of my career, I hear my name quite often.’

Windhorst would go on to mention that he wasn’t sure about the status of Green’s knee and would ask him about it in a second.

Green has been out rehabbing a knee injury that he suffered during the 2022 NBA Eastern conference semifinals, when he tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee.

Green averaged 8.6 points on 40.8% shooting from 3-point range during the postseason.

Despite the injury Green was still traded to the Grizzlies during the 2022 NBA Draft in a deal that sent him and a first-round draft pick to Memphis in exchange for point guard De’Anthony Melton.

Memphis currently has a 19-9 record after which is good enough for first place in the NBA Western Conference and have clearly performed well enough that there isn’t an immediate need to make any changes to the roster.

Injuries have, however, been taking a toll on the team, and if the injury woes continue, moving Green – whose expiring contract may be appealing to teams – would be very much on the table.

‘I’m not surprised at this point in my career… it’s a blessing,’ Green said. ‘I think I’m in a good space. I’m getting closer to returning to the court soon. But we still have a little bit of time.’
