Everton: James Rodriguez reveals he ‘doesn’t even know’ who they play next amid uncertain future

James Rodriguez has shockingly revealed that he ‘doesn’t even know’ who Everton are playing this weekend, as the Colombian’s future remains unclear.

The 30-year-old was unable to feature in Everton’s opening-day win over Southampton, being one of five players who had to isolate due to coronavirus issues.

Everton play Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon but Rodriguez, whose future remains unclear having been told he can leave this summer, revealed on his Twitch stream that he won’t be in action once more – while stating he wasn’t actually sure who their opponents were.

Rodriguez still hasn’t played in front of the Everton faithful since making his stunning £20million switch from Real Madrid last summer, though revealing he will return to the Toffees’ Finch Farm training base next week.

‘I will start training on Monday, I think’, Rodriguez explained on his stream.

‘On the weekend I will not play, I don’t even know who Everton is playing, can you please tell me?’

‘I think it is away because the past was here at home,’ he said shortly after, ‘Ah, against Leeds they play, away from home, against (Marcelo) Bielsa, a difficult game, let’s see what happens, hopefully they win.’

The midfielder’s position at the club has been particularly precarious since Carlo Ancelotti left for Real Madrid, with former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez coming to Goodison Park as his replacement.

Everton have spent just £1.7m this summer, signing Asmir Begovic, Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray, with Benitez admitting that they must sell before buying due to Financial Fair Play rules.

Sportsmail revealed back in June that Rodriguez was being offered to clubs around Europe, with Porto expressing an interest for the midfielder, who earns around £220,000 per week.

With less than two weeks remaining before transfer deadline day on August 31, Rodriguez says anything could happen.

He added: ‘I have faith that this season will be good for me, big things are coming for me.

‘Between now and August 30, anything can happen, I don’t know where I’ll play, I’ll be where things go well.’

When asked about Rodriguez during his pre-match press conference on Friday, Rafa Benitez said: ‘Until August 31, he is part of my plans.’

Rodriguez’s comments come after he admitted he just wants to play where he’s wanted in a previous stream.

‘I don’t know what’s going to happen,’ he told the fans. ‘I don’t know – I don’t know where I’m going to play.

‘You know that in football and in life you don’t know anything, but all I know is that I’ve been training hard, preparing well, training for myself and that’s it.

‘It’s complicated. [I will play] wherever I’m wanted. Someone has to be at a place they’re wanted.’

Rodriguez made a promising start to life with Everton, fishing his debut season with six goals and nine assists in 26 appearances.

However, many of the fans have been left furious by Rodriguez’s apparent lack of interest.

Reacting to Rodriguez’s latest comments, one fan wrote on Twitter: ‘I don’t care who you are, if you don’t want to be at my club I don’t want you there. Get rid and make space for someone who can be arsed.’

Another wrote: ‘Funny how James Rodriguez attitude seems to of changed towards the club now he’s got a manager that isn’t prepared to let him jet off all over the place whenever he sees fit. If he put as much energy into his football as he does on cod he’d be flying.’

One angry fan added: ‘Remember when some supporters were up in arms about how we couldn’t possible get rid of James because of great he is and how he wants to stay with Everton? The guy sits at home all day playing COD on Twitch and doesn’t even know who we play this weekend.’
