Fabio Paratici feels Antonio Conte’s exit from Tottenham was ‘the right decision for everyone’

Fabio Paratici, Tottenham‘s director of football, has insisted Antonio Conte‘s exit from the club was ‘the right decision for everyone.’

Conte left Spurs by mutual consent on Sunday evening after 16 months at the North London club.

His exit came after an extraordinary rant about his players after they gave up a 3-1 lead to bottom-place Southampton.

Paratici was sympathetic towards Conte after his exit, as he told the club’s social media: ‘We know how difficult this season has been for him personally. 

‘Gian Piero [Ventrone] died, and [Gianluca] Vialli and [Sinisa] Mihajlovic, and then his surgery.

‘The club supported him a lot about it and everyone [supported] each other but then we arrived at this mutual agreement and the decision we made was the right decision for everyone.’

Cristian Stellini is set to manage Tottenham in Conte’s place until the end of the season after previously leading the side for their win over Manchester City, and the director of football seemed confident he was well-suited for the role. 

‘He has a lot of experience as a second and has been first [team] coach some years in the past’, he said of Stellini.

‘But then we have Ryan Mason who can help him a lot as he’s been a part of this club for a long time and he knows everything about this club and this group of players. 

‘So I think we are really, really confident that this two person [team] can make a very good job.’

‘The players don’t have to change habit or style of training. To change everything with just 10 games to go would be very difficult on the players.’

Spurs have been heavily linked with former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann but Paratici would not be drawn on speculation, as he added:  ‘We don’t want to speak about other coaches.

‘We are focussed and now concentrating on helping Cristian, the staff, Ryan, the players,’ he said.

‘I think today we have to be focused on our squad and our manager because it is an important moment.’

Whoever is in charge, Spurs face a touch challenge this season if they are to qualify for Champions League football.

They sit fourth for now, but Newcastle are just two points behind them with two games in hand.

Tottenham will next be in action when they face Everton on Monday.
