Ashes tickets have been sold on to supporters in 44 different countries over the last few weeks with fans clamouring to watch Ben Stokes‘ side take on Australia in their attempt to regain the iconic urn. 

A breakdown of sales on secondary ticketing websites such as viagogo seen by Mail Sport shows that thousands of tickets have been re-sold in the build-up to Friday’s first Test at Edgbaston, with a day one ticket in Birmingham proving the most popular and accounting for 10 per cent of all re-sales.

The average price of all tickets re-sold for the first day of the series is £225 – around double the face value – although some were changing hands yesterday for £350.

The most expensive ticket re-sold for the five-Test series to date is for day two at Lords’ on Thursday 29 June, which averaged £363-per-ticket with some fetching over £700. The average price of tickets sold on for the whole series to date is £228.

While 74 per cent of secondary sales have taken place in the United Kingdom the Ashes appears to have a genuinely global appeal with tickets sold to 44 different countries.

Australia, the United States, India and Singapore make up the rest of the top five, but there have also been sales to Kuwait, Namibia and Saudi Arabia.

‘Ashes fever is growing by the day and thousands of tickets have been sold as fans flock to see England’s ‘Bazball’ approach become the latest chapter in the world’s oldest sporting rivalry,’ said Cris Miller, managing director of viagogo. 

‘On average, tickets for the second day of the Second Test at Lord’s are the most valuable overall at £363 per seat. There are still bargains to be had with tickets for what could be the defining final day’s play of the series at The Oval exchanging for £55. 

‘The global appeal of Ashes cricket is also in evidence with tickets purchased in 44 countries around the world, with the USA the third most popular sales destination after the England and Australia.’
