Fans laud Casemiro as his superb volley wins it for Brazil against Switzerland,

Fans have hailed Brazil midfielder Casemiro following his superb strike against Switzerland on Monday evening. 

The South American giants booked their place in the last-16 of the World Cup with a hard-fought win at Stadium 974. 

Casemiro netted the only goal of the game with a swerving half volley which took a slight deflection seven minutes from time.  

Casemiro’s superb volley in the 83rd minute proved to be the difference against Switzerland 

Neymar, who missed the match due to an ankle injury he picked up in the win over Serbia praised his team-mate. He tweeted: ‘Casemiro has been the best midfielder in the world for a long time’. The talismanic forward was sorely missed in the game and Brazil look like they’ll need him back if they’re to win the World Cup.

Fans have also taken to social media to praise the 30-year-old, with some claiming he’s one of Brazil’s best players. 

One fan was left impressed by the technique on Casemiro’s volley, posting: ‘Hope that’s enough technical ability for the doubters. Casemiro is Brazil’s best player alongside Neymar.’ 

A second fan went as far as saying the Brazilian is the best defensive midfielder on the planet. He wrote: ‘Casemiro is the best DM in the world, if you say otherwise you’re delusional.’

Fans have also taken to social media to laud the Manchester United star after his goal

A third fan mirrored similar views by saying: ‘Casemiro is not just a typical ‘destroyer’ or a ‘ball-winner’ — he’s so much more and is no doubt a world class midfielder. His technical qualities are so underrated.’

‘That was an elite striker’s esque finish from Casemiro ,First time hit out of nowhere,’ a fourth fan tweeted. 

ITV pundit Karen Carney described the goals as a ‘wonder strike’ despite it taking a slight deflection off defender Manuel Akanji on it’s way into the net.

She said: ‘It really was (a special goal) there was. There was a slight deflection but I will go Brazilian and say it was a wonder strike.’

The win over Switzerland ensured Brazil’s best start to a World Cup since 2002 – when they last won the tournament. 

Tite’s side are guaranteed a place in the knockout phase and will seek to make it three wins from three when they return to action against Cameroon on Friday night.
