The sensational fee of former WWE star Goldberg’s appearances has been revealed, with the Hall of Famer earning up to $2million per match while with the company.

Goldberg became a free agent at the end of 2022, having not wrestled for the company since losing to Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber in February of last year.

The 56-year-old has been linked with signing with rival promotion AEW, however, owner Tony Khan may be put off a move for the WCW legend after hearing some of the financials he was paid during last run in WWE.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reports that Goldberg was paid an incredible $2million per match for his bouts in Saudi Arabia. A figure that would be a huge stumbling on any move to AEW.

Meltzer wrote: ‘I’d think Khan would love to feature Goldberg in some fashion anyway, but Goldberg made so much money for so few matches in his WWE deal, reportedly $2 million for each of his Saudi Arabia matches, and for AEW, that kind of money per match simply isn’t cost-effective.’

Since his return to WWE in 2016, Goldberg wrestled four matches in Saudi Arabia, bringing his earnings just for those tours at a reported $8 million. He also competed in a further eight matches for the company in the United States.

Despite parting ways with WWE, the former world champion has quashed any indication of retiring from the ring and hopes to promote short retirement tour before eventually hanging up his tights.

During a recent interview with 93.7 The Ticket, after his contract had expired with WWE, Goldberg stated that he was promised a retirement match by Vince McMahon and the pair had a ‘handshake agreement’ over a deal.

‘I’ll stop the rumor mill right now.’ Goldberg explained.

‘The reason the rumours are out there is because Vince McMahon and I had a handshake understanding that after the Roman Reigns match that I would have a proper retirement match.

And that hasn’t come to fruition through them and therefore…nobody puts a stamp on my career. Nobody tells me when I’m done. Period. End of story.

When somebody tells me that, I kind of like to fight against it. I like to do things my own way. I go out my own way, and I certainly don’t go out under Roman Reigns three weeks after I have COVID [19] and agreed to do a match.’

Since his WWE return in 2016, Goldberg twice tasted championship gold. Winning the Universal Title from both Kevin Owens at Fastlane in 2017 and then Bray Wyatt at one of his Saudi appearances at 2020’s Super Showdown.
