France defender Jules Kounde was forced to remove his necklace during his side’s last-16 game against Poland.
Players aren’t permitted to wear jewellery when playing, but Kounde’s necklace wasn’t spotted by referee Jesus Valenzuela until the 43rd minute.
Kounde had his jewellery removed by a member of coaching staff before he took a throw-in.

It was somewhat surprising that Kounde’s gold necklace wasn’t spotted earlier in the half, especially as it was clearly visible on television.
As outlined in the IFAB laws of the game, players are not permitted to wear jewellery while playing
Barcelona defender Kounde featured as a late substitute against Australia in France’s opening group stage victory.
Bizarrely, officials didn’t spot Kounde was wearing the necklace until the 43rd minute
He then played the entirety of the victory against Tunisia before being an unused substitute in the loss to Tunisia.
France went into the game against Poland having finished top of Group D.
Didier Deschamps’ side are looking to retain the trophy which they won in 2018.
