Gennady Golovkin became the unified super middleweight world champion after his ninth-round stoppage of Ryoto Murata on Saturday afternoon.
The Kazakhstani boxer made his return to the ring 400 days after his last bout – as he added Murata’s WBA belt to his IBO and IBF super middleweight title collection.
The 40-year-old took a while to shake off the ring rust, but eventually forced Murata’s team to throw in the towel midway through the ninth-round after a brutal stoppage.
