PGA rising star Sam Burns has slam dunked a thick cut chip shot from 56 feet to eagle the eighteenth in round three of the FedEx cup championship – ending his day after a lightning show halted play.
Burns sits tied 23rd in the tour championship at East Lake golf club in Atlanta which will decide the champion PGA golfer of the year.

After a second shot into the deep rough par five, Burns was left with an intimidating lob wedge over the greenside bunker to give himself a chance at birdie.
Pulling out his 60 degree wedge, the 26-year-old launched his ball high out of a poor lie, dunking straight into the hole to his surprise.
‘He holes it, what a great way to finish the day … he drops it in the bucket,’ a PGA commentator said.
Burns’ magic chip made traction on social media, referencing the hole out to basketball’s ‘nothing but net’.
‘Steph Curry mode activated for Sam Burns on the green Nothing but net for Burns on hole 18,’ ClutchPoints posted on Twitter.

Burns was recently selected to represent America in the Presidents cup, alongside US heavyweights Patrick Cantlay and Justin Thomas.
The four-time PGA tour winner finished the day with a three under 67, while other golfers missed out on carding a score due to a lightning show which has been seen before at the FedEx event.

The third round was delayed twice as lightning battered the surrounding area, postponing play for 58 minutes before a lack of daylight called time.
In 2019 at the same Atlanta course, lightning strikes left multiple fans injured on the Saturday afternoon, hitting a fan zone near the 16th tee box.
Limbs off trees injured around four fans, as the bolt sliced through a tree surrounding the fairway.
Slow motion footage showed the danger of the strike, which lit an instant fire.

Burns had another play of the day, sinking a classy 13-foot putt to stay in the hunt on the final day of the last tour event.
The Louisiana state golfer went pro in 2017 and has amassed US$7million throughout his career.
Burns took out the 2022 Charles Schwab challenge, edging out world no.1 Scottie Scheffler in a playoff – getting the youngster to fifth in the FedEx standings.
