Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw is blasted for ‘suicide’ comment on Fox’s NFL broadcast

Terry Bradshaw has been condemned for a comment he made about suicide during Fox’s NFL broadcast Sunday.

The Hall of Famer, 74, was giving his thoughts on Arizona Cardinals’ running back James Conner as part of analysis ahead of the team’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, which Arizona lost 31-21.

‘Their mentality is throw, throw, throw, throw. I think if this kid ran five or six runs in a row, I think he’d commit suicide or something,’ Bradshaw said.

Former NFL player and analyst Howie Long was quick to inject, saying: ‘Woah, woah, woah that’s a little dark for this audience.’

Curt Menefee also added: ‘That’s a little dark for all of us.’

The comment has drawn heavy criticism on social media, with one user writing: ‘NOT OK. 

‘As a mental health professional and as someone who works directly with people who struggle suicidal thoughts this comment is just WRONG. Apologize for your careless comment @NFL @ArizonaCardinals @K1 @NFLonFOX #terrybradshaw #SuicideAwareness.’

Another added: ‘Dear Terry Bradshaw, SUICIDE IS NOT A JOKE,’ with one other saying: ‘Terry Bradshaw making the f***ing suicidal joke was not it.’

The comment has drawn heavy criticism on social media, with some saying he should lose job

One social media user claimed Bradshaw should lose his job. The post read: ‘Terry Bradshaw should be fired for his comments today. There is no place in is this world for jokes about suicide.’

Another said: ‘Terry has got to go. Way past his prime.’ 

Meanwhile one more said: ‘Bradshaw has seen better days. Fox needs to do the right thing and prevent this old man from continually embarrassing himself.’

Bradshaw was Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback from 1970-1983 and has been working on TV for 28 years as an analyst and co-host of Fox’s NFL Sunday show.
