Liverpool fans have taken to social media to mock reports coming out of Spain that their club has made a stunning £170m offer to sign PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe is believed to be up for sale with the forward unwilling to extend his deal which expires next summer and the French club having no intention of letting him leave on a free.

Real Madrid have long looked his most likely destination when he leaves the Parc des Princes but the Los Blancos may not be able to afford him in this window.

And Spanish journalist Edu Aguirre has now claimed that Liverpool have launched a club record bid to beat Madrid to it.

Aguirre said on El Chiringuito TV: ‘What has occurred, in the last few hours, in the offices of PSG is that an offer from Liverpool has arrived.

‘Liverpool have entered the scene. Liverpool have made a €200m (£170m) offer for Mbappe.

‘The offer from Liverpool that has arrived in the last few hours in the offices of PSG is of €200m. Nasser Al-Khelaifi has put Mbappe up for sale.’

However, fans are unconvinced by the outlandish claim.

‘Has anyone told them who are owners are?’ wrote one Liverpool supporter while another shared a photo of Mbappe being signed on a video game with the caption ‘the only way Liverpool can get Mbappe.’

‘Who’s going to tell them,’ another replied in response to the news while one questioned how they could afford such a fee when they are struggling to meet the £50m asking price for Romeo Lavia.

Mbappe has been warned he has two weeks to decide his future as he will not be allowed to leave Paris Saint-Germain for nothing next summer.

PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi has claimed his star man leaving for nothing is ‘impossible’ and Mbappe is now on the clock if he is staying or going.

‘We want him to stay but he can’t leave for free,’ Al-Khelaifi said at the unveiling of new manager Luis Enrique.

‘There was a verbal agreement and he had discussed it in an interview. And I was really shocked to learn that he had decided to leave for free.

‘It’s very disappointing because Mbappe is a fantastic boy, a real gentleman and to leave for free, weakening the biggest club in France, it’s not him. When I heard the news, I was shocked and disappointed.’

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Mbappe but a bid of such size is hard to believe

‘It’s for him to decide for himself next week, or at most in the next two weeks,’ Al-Khelaifi continued. And if he does not want to sign a new contract, the door is open.

‘It’s like that for him and everyone else. Nobody is bigger than the club, no player, not even me. It’s very clear.

‘By the standards of football, you never see your best player leave for free. It just doesn’t happen.

‘We don’t want to let the best player in the world go for free, it’s impossible. PSG is a French club, it’s his city, and he’s already said he doesn’t want to leave for free.

‘If today someone made him change his mind, it’s not my fault.’
