  • Ben Duckett was left feeling short-changed before fourth Ashes Test
  • Diminutive batsman, 28, stood in between Stuart Broad and Zac Crawley
  • Vertically challenged English star was an easy target for fans on Twitter

Footage of pint-sized English batsman Ben Duckett standing in between ‘giant’ teammates Stuart Broad and Zac Crawley during the national anthem ahead of the fourth Ashes Test left many cricket fans around the world in stitches.

Why vertically challenged Duckett, 28, opted to position himself on either side of the veteran quick and fellow opening batsman at Old Trafford in Manchester is the question many supporters want to know.

It also didn’t take long for the vision to go viral on social media, moments after a rendition from England’s XI of God Save the Queen.

‘Are they doing this on purpose every time? Poor Ben Duckett seems to always be stuck between the tallest players for anthems, one fan tweeted.

Another posted: ‘For the fifth Test, can someone please get Ben Duckett a stool.’

A third supporter went even further, tweeting: ‘Good to see the mascot singing along.’

Duckett takes the height jibes in his stride, having previously poked fun at himself following similar footage emerging from a recent Test against Ireland at Lord’s.

Crawley (6ft 5in) and Broad (6ft 6in) tower over the 29-year-old, so much so that the Sky Sport cameras at the time only caught the top of Duckett’s forehead as they panned across the players singing.

Duckett took to Instagram upon seeing a replay following the day’s play, joking that he ‘might stand somewhere else next time.’

Clearly he has ignored his own advice for the Ashes.

The Nottinghamshire man looms as a key figure on day two, with the hosts to soon occupy the crease.

Australia are 8/299 from 83 overs, and will look for quick runs early on before England begin their first innings.

Brendon McCullum’s team are also likely to throw caution to the wind, with ‘Bazball’ predicted from ball one.

Pat Cummins’ men – who lead the gripping series 2-1 – only need a draw to retain the urn.
