The most relaxed pitch invader in footy history fools security by blending in on the sideline instead of running amok on the ground – and he even had time for a vape and a handshake with Billy Slater

While most pitch invaders tear across the field, dodging security guards and often shedding their clothing, one fan took a completely different approach at the Melbourne NRL game against the Sydney Roosters.

As spectators took their seats and workers milled around the sidelines in preparation for the match on Thursday night, he jumped the fence and simply stood with camera operators and ground staff like he belonged on the sideline.

The young man, who was being filmed by fans, casually walked his way across the field and could not believe his luck when former Melbourne Storm champion and current Channel Nine commentator Billy Slater crossed his path.

The pitch invader stuck out a paw and Slater obliged, shaking the young man’s hand.

The cheeky spectator then threw his hands up in celebration and put on a goose step to emulate the Storm champion.

Over the course of several minutes the young fan surveyed the field and was even able to take a hit from a vape.

Finally, a security guard realised he didn’t belong on the pitch and gave him the tap on the shoulder.

It is not known what the young man said to the security officer, who politely opened a gate for him and let him back into the stands instead of tackling him to the ground.

‘Glad they didn’t boot him out the stadium tho, no interruptions to the game, bro was just chill with it,’ one fan posted.

‘He’s just casually vaping,’ another fan posted with a series of laughing emojis.

‘Confidence ladies and gents confidence will confuse people and they will think that you are meant to be there,’ added another.

Victoria Police confirmed the 21-year-old man was later arrested and fined.

‘Police were called to reports of a pitch invader during a rugby league match in Melbourne on Thursday, 6 April,’ police said in a statement.

‘It’s alleged that a man jumped the fence before walking around the ground just before 8pm.

‘A 21-year-old Elwood man was arrested and issued a penalty notice for enter sporting competition space without a lawful reason and fined $370.’
