- A Premier League winners medal has been placed up for sale on Instagram
- Former Man United physio Rod Thornley is wanting to cash-in on his medal
- Thornley was part of United’s last Premier League title triumph 10 years ago
Childhood dreams of getting your hands on a a Premier League winners medal could soon become a reality for one lucky football fan.
Ambitions of making it as a professional footballer unfortunately failed to materialise for the majority of the game’s followers, with a select few going on to make it in the dizzying heights of the English top-flight and an even smaller group becoming a league champion.
However, a winners medal from Manchester United‘s last Premier League title triumph 10 years ago is being auctioned off by one of the club’s former physios.
Rod Thornley spent 19 years as a first-team therapist at Old Trafford, playing an integral backroom role in helping keep players fit for upcoming battles in England and across Europe.
The former United and England masseur was part of the club during their various glamorous Premier League and continental successes and was handed an official Premier League winners medal during Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in 2012/13.

But, the 45-year-old doesn’t seem bothered about keeping the one-of-a-kind memento and has put the medal up for sale on his Instagram after finding it stashed away while clearing out his various pieces of memorabilia from over the years.
Posting on his Instagram account to his 2000+ followers, Thornley stated that he would consider all offers for the authentic piece of silverware.
‘Just having a little clear out of my memorabilia from my time at Man Utd,’ he said.
‘Anyone of my Facebook friends , if you fancy making me an offer on this genuine premier league winners medal from the last time we won the league 2012-2013 , you never know, it could be our last!!!!!! DM me.’
The tongue-in-cheek reference at the end of his post points to United’s struggles since they last won the Premier League a decade ago.
The Red Devils have finished just twice in the league since then and have never looked like serious competitors during that time.
David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer all failed in their attempts to make United serious title challengers once again, although current boss Erik ten Hag has enjoyed a promising start to life at Old Trafford.

The Premier League winners medal is gold and silver plated and could fetch Thornley – or any other keen negotiator – a hefty price if it was taken to auction.
It comes fastened inside a black Premier League box and is inscribed with the words ‘champions 2012/13’ on the back of the medal.
Former United and Chelsea manager Mourinho famously threw one of his Premier League winners medals into the Stamford Bridge crowd and landed a supporter a huge payday.
A 2010 auction for the iconic medal fetched £16,800 at auction, with the rate of inflection in the past 13 years meaning Thornley’s addition would likely go for an even higher fee.
