iPhone weather app is DOWN: Apple users worldwide can’t see forecasts on their smartphones

iPhone users around the world may need to pack for all weathers when they go out today, as the Apple Weather app is down.

Instead of showing live forecasts, the app shows a blank screen with just the location when opening the app.

The System Status site for Apple indicates that the weather feature is experiencing an issue affecting ‘some users’.

It adds that problems started at 4:00am BST today, but does not provide any information about when they may be resolved.

The app appears to be malfunctioning for different Apple operating systems; iOS, iPadOS and macOS.

However some are finding the Apple Watch app, which uses watchOS, works as normal, according to 9to5Mac.

The precipitation, temperature and air quality maps do still work – albeit slowly.

Other popular Apple services, like the App Store and Apple Music, are still working properly.

Apple’s support note adds that ‘next-hour precipitation may be unavailable for Alaska due to a data provider outage’, however the problem has persisted on all day and extends to devices further afield than Alaska.

Users have taken to Twitter to express their confusion over the outage.

One said: ‘What the heck? #AppleWeather is down again? What is happening? I can’t function without my weather.’

Another added: ‘Weather app is down so now I don’t know what to wear for tomorrow’

The official Twitter page for Apple Support is responding to disgruntled users, saying it is ‘investigating the issue’ and asking for them to message any questions directly.

Some say that problems with the Weather app begun just after the iOS 16.4 update, which came out last week.

The new operating system comes with a range of new features, including the addition of 21 new emoji to the keyboard.

This includes the highly anticipated pink heart icon, as well as a shaking face (‘I’m shook’), a moose, stem ginger, the Wi-Fi symbol and a pair of maracas.

The Weather app issues also come just a week after Apple briefly relaunched the popular Dark Sky weather predicting app.

Dark Sky provided ‘hyperlocal’ weather forecasts by location, including minute-by-minute predictions and smartphone alerts.

The tech giant acquired the rival app in 2020, moved some of its features over to its own Weather app and then shut the original down at the start of this year.

The copied features included lightning forecasts, 10-day forecasts and severe weather alerts, which were installed as part of the iOS 16 update.

But the Dark Sky app came back to life temporarily in an apparent server error on Apple’s end last week, according to 9to5Mac.

Apple announces its next major event where it’s expected to launch a HUGE new product

After nearly eight years of development, Apple is expected to finally unveil its hotly-anticipated mixed reality headset this June.

The tech giant has confirmed that its annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) will take place between June 5 and June 9.

Apple published a blog post confirming the dates with a cryptic promo image featuring curving coloured lines – a possible nod to the headset.

Although it didn’t make any mention of the headset in the announcement, respected leaker Mark Gurman has said it will finally get its public debut in June.

It will allegedly have 10 cameras and and an operating system called realityOS with mixed reality versions of Apple apps such as FaceTime and Maps.
