The Eagles have agreed terms with Jalen Hurts on a five-year, $255million contract extension to make him the highest paid player in NFL history.
He will have a guaranteed $180m in the deal and around $15m a season in incentives, according to NFL Network.
His new deal also apparently includes a no-trade clause.
Hurts led the Eagles to the Super Bowl last season but they were beaten by the Kansas City Chiefs.
The 24-year-old has been with the Eagles since being drafted in 2020. His most recent season was his best, despite tasting Super Bowl defeat – Hurts completed 66.5% of his passes for 22 touchdowns and six interceptions, plus another 760 yards and 13 TDs rushing.
Speaking after the Super Bowl defeat in Phoenix in February, Hurts said of his team: ‘I’m so proud of this team. I will say I’m so proud of this team for everything that we’ve been able to overcome.
‘Obviously we had a big time goal in the end that we wanted to accomplish, and we came up short.
‘The beautiful part about it is everyone experiences different pains, everyone experiences different agonies of life, but you decide if you want to learn from it. You decide if you want to use that to be a teachable moment and I know what I’ll do.’
