England have retained faith in Jonny Bairstow for the all-important fourth Test at Old Trafford next week.
They named a 14-man squad and have resisted the case to leave Bairstow out after a difficult first three matches in the Ashes and go back to the superior wicketkeeping skills of Ben Foakes.
Instead there are no unexpected call ups in the squad, Ollie Robinson retaining his place despite suffering a back spasm in the thrilling third Test victory and Jimmy Anderson and Josh Tongue both in contention for a place in Manchester next Wednesday.
England will decide whether Anderson should return at his home ground next week while there is also a strong case for Tongue coming in after his five-wicket haul on his ashes debut in the second Test at Lord’s.
One of the biggest issue for England will be the batting line-up. Moeen Ali will definitely polay but it remains to be seen whether he stays at three after his elevation in the second innings at Headingley or whether there is a reshuffle, with either Harry Brook returning there or Joe Root moving up from four.
