England cricketer Jonny Bairstow has announced that he has become a father for the first time ahead of this summer’s Ashes.
Bairstow has recently regained his place in England’s Test team after recovering from a horrific leg break that ruled him out of action for over six months.
He featured in England’s dominant 10-wicket win over Ireland last week, and things have also been going well for the 33-year-old off the field.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, the wicketkeeper-batsman revealed his girlfriend recently gave birth to a baby boy.
Alongside a picture of himself pushing a pram, Bairstow wrote: ‘Delighted to share with you that my girlfriend and I have welcomed Edward Bairstow into the world! What an amazing time ahead! They are both doing brilliantly.’

Bairstow will be hoping to star in this summer’s Ashes after shining for England last year
Bairstow’s good news comes just days before the Ashes get underway next Friday at Edgbaston.
He enjoyed a golden summer last year, hitting four centuries against New Zealand and India to kickstart England’s resurgence under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum in the longest format of the game.
Having established himself as England’s main man at the start of the ‘Bazball’ era, it was always a formality that he would return to the side when fit again.
He has been given extra responsibility this summer, taking the gloves from Ben Foakes, and England will hope he can continue his ultra-aggressive approach with the bat against Australia.
England have not claimed the Ashes since 2015, but have won 11 out of 13 matches since Stokes took charge of the team to build momentum heading into the five-match series.
