Jurgen Klopp reveals Darwin Nunez apologised after his red card for Liverpool against Crystal Palace

Jurgen Klopp has revealed he has spoken privately with Darwin Nunez and the Liverpool striker apologised after his red card against Crystal Palace on Monday.

The Urugyuan was sent off on his first start for the club for a headbutt at Palace defender Joachim Andersen and will serve a three-match-ban.

The forward, who arrived at Anfield from Benfica this summer for a fee that could reach £85million, became the first Liverpool player to receive a red card for violent conduct during Klopp’s tenure at Anfield.

And the German revealed that Nunez was upset with himself after the game.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Monday’s clash with Manchester United, Klopp said: ‘We spoke to Darwin. He was very disappointed with himself that it happened.’

‘The things the centre-half did, he is not the only player in the world who is doing these kinds of things.

‘It is like it is, if someone makes such a mistake and you tell them they should not do it, they know.’

Klopp believes the forward will learn from what happened and said ‘we have all made mistakes’

However, Klopp, who revealed the Uruguyuan apologised, said the forward should learn from what happened on Monday.

‘It is about emotions. We never had a situation like this before here and that is why I am not an expert in these talks because I didn’t need to have it that often.

‘But it was that obvious he knew anyway. He apologised, which is absolutely fine.

‘It is not necessary to walk him through the building with his head down, miserable stuff like this. It happened. We are human beings.

‘We have all made mistakes in our life and will make mistakes in our life, you have to carry on. If you don’t do it again then it is all fine. It happened once and it’s all OK.’
