Kid Galahad defeats Jazza Dickens for IBF featherweight title inflicting brutal injuries on opponent

Kid Galahad claimed a world title at the second attempt as his all-British bout with Jazza Dickens for the vacant IBF featherweight crown was stopped after 11 rounds.

The 31-year-old from Sheffield dominated the Brentwood contest and referee Michael Alexander called a halt to proceedings with Dickens badly cut around the eye.

Galahad’s victory was the second of his career over Dickens and earned him a world belt two years after losing to Josh Warrington in Leeds.

Dickens was badly beaten in the fight, suffering bad cuts to the eye up until the eleventh 

Galahad controlled most of the rounds, stepping up his assault from the eighth onwards while Dickens fought on bravely through increasingly gruesome injuries to his face. 

A final battering in the eleventh round was all the referee needed to see, stopping the bout before Dickens could rise from his stool for the final round. 

Galahad told BBC Five Live: ‘It’s unbelievable. After 19 years of hard work, blood and sweat I’ve finally got the IBF belt round my waist.’  

‘I didn’t want to leave it to the referees or judges. Now I want to win a couple more titles and unify the division.

Galahad is chasing a rematch with Josh Warrington after a controversial loss to the Leeds man

‘If I fight Warrington, he’s not going 12 rounds.’

Galahad’s loss to Warrington is the only blemish on an otherwise perfect record, with 28 wins from 29 fights.  

It was a controversial split decision which saw Warrington keep his titles, and Galahad is desperate for another crack at the Leeds fighter.
