Laura Woods quits talkSPORT job and is set to replace Jake Humphrey on TNT Sports

BREAKING NEWS: Laura Woods QUITS her talkSPORT job as breakfast show host as she’s lined up to replace Jake Humphrey as lead presenter for BT Sport’s relaunch as TNT Sports

Laura Woods is set to leave talkSPORT’s Sports Breakfast show, with her last appearance to take place on Wednesday June 28, the organisation has announced.

Woods has hosted the broadcaster’s flagship show for three years, and the 35-year-old will call time on a role that has seen the presenter win multiple awards for her coverage, including Best Speech Breakfast Show at the ARIAS in 2021.

At the end of May, Mail Sport reported that Woods will be helming newly-launched TNT Sport’s Champions League coverage next season, replacing long-serving presenter Jake Humphrey when BT Sport undergoes its summer rebrand.

Woods’ statement in the wake of her exit was typically warm and wry, as the Arsenal supporter shared that she would even miss ‘Spurs fans’ after leaving the broadcaster.

‘You lot, our listeners, have given me so much comfort and guided me through some of my toughest moments, without even realising it,’ Woods said. ‘So I wanted to thank you personally for that. I will miss it dearly. Even the Spurs fans.

‘For what feels like a lifetime I’ve been a listener of talkSPORT. For the last six years it’s been my home, where we get to spend our mornings talking about sport. There’s nothing better. I know I will never find a job like this. It’s unique.

‘Three years as the host of this amazing breakfast show, three bits of silverware for the trophy cabinet and record listening figures. I’m very proud of what we achieved here. One thing’s for sure: I will always be part of this family at talkSPORT.’

Head of the organisation Liam Fisher paid tribute to the popular radio host and her place as ‘one of the brightest stars of sports media’.

‘Her warmth, knowledge and love of sport have shone through and made her always connect with our 3.6 million weekly listeners,’ Fisher added.

‘Her relationship with her fellow presenters like Ally McCoist and Gabby Agbonlahor and the galaxy of stars she has interviewed over the last three years as Breakfast host have created a fantastic listen every morning. I’m pleased that Laura will remain a part of the talkSPORT family.’

Alongside her radio role, Woods has anchored a number of high-profile events for other broadcasters including ITV, Amazon Prime, and DAZN.

Woods travelled with ITV to Qatar as one of the hosts of their World Cup coverage, and most recently featured for the broadcaster in their coverage of the FA Cup final between Manchester United and Manchester City.

On the announcement of her departure from talkSPORT, a flurry of tributes were posted to Twitter by Woods’ colleagues and fans alike.

Whilst Woods is yet to confirm her involvement with TNT’s coverage of the 2023-24 season, outgoing anchor Jake Humphrey paid tribute to the end of BT Sport’s time on air after Saturday’s Champions League final.

When announcing he would not be playing a role in the new-look channel, Humphrey called his decade at BT Sport his ‘dream job’.

‘After 10 wonderful years, I am stepping back from BT,’ Humphrey wrote. ‘As a football fan, hosting Premier League matches, FA Cup games and European Finals has meant the world to me. It has been my dream job. I’ve loved being a very small part of a world class production team.

‘I also feel blessed to have shared the screen with legends of the game and incredible broadcasters, who have become friends. Thank you all.’
