Liverpool are ‘very interested in Lille star Renato Sanches’ with the French club ‘ready to sell’ the Portugal midfielder… but Jurgen Klopp’s side ‘face competition from Arsenal’

  • Liverpool are interested in a move for Lille star Renato Sanches this summer
  • The midfielder helped the Lille beat PSG to the Ligue 1 title last season
  • But the French club are open to selling the impressive 23-year-old
  • Arsenal are also interested in making a move for the Portugal midfielder

Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for Lille star Renato Sanches, with the French prepared to sell the midfielder this summer.

The 23-year-old has rebuilt his career in France after leaving Bayern Munich in 2019 following a disastrous loan spell with Swansea in the 2017-2018 campaign.

He played an important part in Lille’s shock Ligue 1 title win last season but French outlet L’Equipe claim the club are open to cashing in on the midfielder, with Liverpool ‘very interested’ in making a move.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to strengthen his midfield after Georginio Wijnaldum’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool have also been linked with Borussia Monchengladbach’s Florian Neuhaus and Brighton’s Yves Bissouma.

L’Equipe also report that the Reds face competition for Sanches from Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta’s side ready to join the bidding war.

Arsenal signed Pepe from Lille in 2019 and defender Gabriel Magalhaes last summer.

The French side have a reputation of selling on their best players for big fees with the Gunners paying £72million for Pepe and £27m for Gabriel.

Sanches beat the likes of Marcus Rashford, Kingsley Coman and Ousmane Dembele to win the European Golden Boy award in 2017 after joining Bayern Munich from Benfica in a £30m deal.

But the midfielder failed to make the grade at the Allianz Arena and was sent on loan to Swansea in 2017.

He was unable to replicate the impressive form he showed in the early part of his career in South Wales with manager Carlos Carvalhal saying the midfielder had ‘a lot to learn’.

Sanches famously passed to an advertising board against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge before being substitued at half-time as his confidence hit rock bottom.

However, a switch to Lille allowed him to relaunch his career and he now looks back to his best for both club and country.
