Liverpool have taken another step forward in rebuilding the Anfield Road Stand as a ‘huge truss’ was put into position on Tuesday morning.

Work on the stand began last September, with manager Jurgen Klopp putting a spade into the ground to mark the start of the construction.

Significant progress has been made since then, and the club’s communications vice-president Craig Evans has now delivered an update on the new stand.

‘The huge truss on the new Anfield Road Stand is being carefully lifted into position this morning,’ he tweeted on Tuesday.

When the stand is completed, it will be able to hold an extra 7,000 fans.

The majority of the seats in the new stand – 5,200 to be precise – will be general admission seats, whereas the remaining 1,800 will be lounge or hospitality seats, and will take Anfield’s total capacity past the 61,000 mark.

This would make Anfield the third largest ground in the Premier League by capacity, behind only Old Trafford and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, there is still plenty of work to be done before the stand is in place and ready to be used.

The club aim to have the stand completed ahead of the start of the 2023-24 season, meaning that it is still around 12 months away from being finished.
